Adelphi Victorian silver plate cake basket with roses and rose buds late 19th C
This ornate cake basket is heavy with silver. You can see the shine from across the room.
Heavy metal American made Adelphi Silver Co. Victorian cake basket. The circular dish is etched with roses and rose buds. The outer edge is tooled with a floral motif. The handle is beaded at the top and where attached, is floral and ornate. The pedestal base is ribbed and has a circular foot.  The basket shines up very well. It sits level on a table.
There is a Victorian mark on the base underside.  Part of the mark is missing due to either re-silvering or not being stamped well. The letters N ADELPHI SILVER   MM   QUADRUPLE with a bee hive design that are stamped.
MEASUREMENTS
10 “ (25.4 cm) diameter x 6 ¼” (15.9 cm) high (to basket). 12” (30.5 cm) high including handle. Weighs 2 lb 0.9 oz (935 g)
CONDITION
Has been replated and has a nice thick layer of silver. The handle does not stand up on its own. There are a few small nicks and dents but these have been covered over with silver. The flat basket part looks a little sloped and not totally flat.  It shows very well.
A shiny rich looking cake basket, which will make an elegant serving piece today. So very much handwork went into this piece to make it so beautiful.
