Description
Silverplate cake/fruit basket (often called a brides basket) by Sheffield Silver Co. Single initial on the handle. Beautiful pierced design! Footed base. Brides baskets were popular in the US between about 1860-1910, and continued to be made into early 20th century. Fill with small petit fours or candies, cut flowers or fresh fruit when entertaining. They make a great gloves holder!
SIZE: About 10 1/2" in diameter and about 7" tall with the handle up.
MARKS: On bottom as shown in photo. The Sheffield Silver Co (New York, USA). Founded in 1908. They mainly produced plated silver holloware. The mark on this piece was in use by them from 1908-1950.
CONDITION: Pre-owned older item. Some wear to the silverplate and tarnish as would be expected. Given its age and material, please expect the possibility of a few other very minor flaws. Presents beautifully! Looks even better in real life than it does in the photos. May need polishing to your taste, depending on the 'look' you prefer.
