PRE WWI GERMAN SG-98 MAUSER QUILLBACK BAYO-SAXON “GR” & UNIT MARKED-SIMSON 1904

Description

Very good condition original pre WWI Imperial German SG-98 Mauser quillback bayonet that is maker marked “SIMSON & CO. SUHL” on the right ricasso and dated 1904 on the spine. Bayonet shows rare and desirable Saxon use with a “crown GR” cypher marking on the blade spine. Blade has original bright finish with some brown and gray patina. Remaining metal has brown and gray patina. Wood grips have original finish and a good tight fit with some normal wear and handling marks. Lock button functions fine. Fitted in correct original leather scabbard that has steel throat and tip. Leather shows some wear, stitching and staples are tight. Unit marked “136.R.E.3.235.” on the throat for the Ersatz Battalion of the 136
