Rare WWI German L-O-N-G Steel Solingen "BUTCHER BLADE" Steel Bayonet & Scabbard, Dated 1915, Nice Original Doughboy Vet Bring-back Battlefield Souvenir From EuropeDESCRIPTION:
Scarce complete, original VERY LONG WWI German "flared tip" BUTCHER BLADE steel bayonet. Scans show it all. Blade is decent condition, with minor pitting from its time laying on the battlefield. Locking button has also frozen from weather exposure. HAS NICE MARKINGS, especially on top of the blade (standard crown and "W", with "15" for 1915) and the Solingen maker's name on the side of the blade.
Hard wood grips are in good condition. I am selling this just as I got it from the WWI Doughboy vet's family who served in Europe and BROUGHT IT HOME AS A COMBAT BATTLEFIELD SOUVENIR many years ago.
Has a steel scabbard, but appears to be a modern reproduction that someone bought to complete the set or to make it complete for display in a collection or on the wall.
A few mall dings in it. The bayonet is clearly original, however, and was THERE and saw combat use. Battle use, but still in decent condition. NICE TO FIND THEM AT ALL ANYMORE, ESPECIALLY ONE BROUGHT HOME AS A BATTLEFIELD FIND.
Bayonet is standard 19 5/8" long overall, and blade is about 14 1/8" long.
There are few WWI enemy bayonets nicer than the Butcher Blade style. Made with a flared front end (from 1" to 1 1/4+" wide) to provide greater end weight, for better chopping ability and power in preparing meat and food. Made a particularly menacing looking bayonet to face, as well.
