Description
A classic Victorian beauty is etched on this silver plate confectionery basket by one of the best, James Tufts. Shiny, glittering, work of art from the Victorian era.This 5 ¾” diameter heavy metal candy dish or confectionery basket has a crimped mouth edge on. The central well of the basket has a very finely done etched profile a beautiful woman with a leaf background. This design is elaborate, with good line quality and good depth to the etching. There is a repoussé scroll and floral band around the mouth edge and a rope handle that stands on its own. The base is rounded. The piece still has most of its silver and has polished up well.
A stamped mark reading “JAMES W. TUFTS QUADRUPLE PLATE BOSTON WARRENTED” with a circle around a star with the letter T inside, and the numbers 2824 and 12 is on the base.
MEASUREMENTS
1 ½” (3.8 cm) tall to basket lip. 5”(12.7 cm) tall overall. 5 ¾” (14.6 cm) diameter. Weighs 8.7 oz (245 g)
CONDITION
The base has three dents. They are small and do not distract from the look. There are a few small wear scratches on the inside of the basket. The basket has most of its silver and shines well.
