This Antique Victorian Footed Brides Basket is Quadruple Warranted Silverplate and was crafted in Boston Massachusetts by the James W. Tufts Silver Company 1875-1900.
Quadruple Silver Plate items were four times as heavily plated with silver than items marked standard silver plate.
This rare find was sourced from a high end estate sale and according to information from its owner, this piece has been packed away for decades. It is quite apparent this Brides Basket has been well cared for and shows no signs of considerable wear, deep scratches, tarnish, dents or dings. There are a few very small minor reflective scratches consistent with age, which in no way takes away from its beauty. The Silver Plate has kept its radiant brilliancy over the years and needs no polishing.
The handle is in perfect working order, beautifully enhanced with a lovely floral top and folds easily. The center circle of the basket is embellished with an intricately engraved floral pattern.
The outer rim is enhanced with a raised engraved floral motif. The smaller circle inside the floral pattern was designed for the couple's initials.(Basket has no initials engraved in circle).
The feet of the basket are a delicately designed in a Victorian floral design.
    Dimensions:
    9 1/2" Diameter × 2 1/8" High
9 1/4" High from bottom to handle top
____________________________ During the Victorian era, these baskets became very popular wedding gifts. We now refer to the silver basket as Brides Baskets which came into style during the 1880s-1900s and were crafted in Sterling or Silverplate. Brides Baskets became an important part of the wedding ceremony, flower girls would carry these baskets down the aisle to scatter flower petals, and after the ceremony the basket was used at the reception to display the bridal bouquet.
These Brides Baskets have since become popular collector items. They are now used for many purposes and are sought after for a "perfect" elegant wedding and/or wedding shower gift.
