Description
WWI German 98/05 Mauser Butcher Bayonet with Scabbard and Frog. Ricasso is marked "Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie" "Solingen", the spine is marked with a crown over "W" over "1?" over "I" with a crown over that, and the pommel has a double "I" with crowns. The wood grips are solid with some nicks and chips. The blade has been lightly sharpened, the tip is sharp, there are a few minor nicks, and age spots scattered throughout.
Lock button is functional. The scabbard is solid with no dents, some remnants of green paint, dirt under where the frog is, and the ball finial has what looks like another "I" with a crown. The bayonet is very tight on the in/out. The leather frog shows wear, the stitching is tight, it is stamped on the backside but is mostly illegible to me except "1916", and the frog stud hole is torn, a small piece is loose. Length of the blade measures 14 1/2" (1 1/16" wide x 1/4" thick spine), length of the bayonet is 19 3/4", overall in the scabbard it is 20 1/2", and the frog alone is 9 1/2".
