    Description

    ·
    This auction is for a
    Very rare
German 98/05 Mauser Butcher Bayonet w/Scabbard & Frog
    .
    ·
The bayonet butcher blade is14 ¼”, and(in scabbard) it is 20 ¼” long.
    ·
This bayonet is marked, but I can’t make them out due to the condition of the metal-please check the photos.
    ·
    The wooden handle
is very good, showing light wear and use, free of cracks and chips, with some minor light handling marks.
    ·
The blade has not been sharpen, but I do feel a few nicks. Blade has an overall salt-and-pepper patina, showing scattered pitting.
    ·
    The guard is marked with
    German Regimental numbers (
hard to read, but I think -1.J.2.E).
    ·
The metal scabbard has some light surface rust.
    ·
The leather frog is marked (hard to see but I think-“A.dahl” and a date .
    ·
The sawback teeth look good to me.
This bayonet appears to have been period used but it is honest wear, and I would consider it reasonable considering the age and where it has been. (Remember at first it was issued only to the German engineer/pioneer troops as a bayonet/tool)
